Breaking Down Barriers Between Police and Youth

When out in the field, officers can make common assumptions about “perpetrators” and “victims.” When they do this, they are stereotyping instead of looking in depth at societal issues individuals and communities face. Sometimes law enforcement explain that they are making decisions based on past experiences. However, it is important for law enforcement to understand the social problems and experiences of both “perpetrators” and “victims.”
